Deman Coffee Estate

Deman Coffee Estate is situated in Meru County- Nkubu sub-county ( On the eastern slopes of Mt. Kenya). The estate sits on a 10-acre land with an elevation of 1,600 meters above sea level.

We have 10,000 trees and our growing method is Regenerative Agriculture (Organic).

  • Coffee varieties: Our coffee varieties are Ruiru 11 and Batian.
  • Processing: We use different processing techniques such as anaerobic fermentation, natural, or honey processes.
  • Harvesting seasons: We have two harvesting seasons:
    1. March - June
    2. October - December

Mutai and Catherine

Mr. and Mrs. Mutai

Deman Coffee Estate is owned by Mutai Kinyua together with his wife Catherine Karimi.

His grandfather and father have grown coffee on this farm since the 1950s.

As a way of growing coffee in a sustainable way, Deman Coffee Estate embarked aggressively on adopting a Regenerative agricultural system that sustains the natural eco-system and does not degrade it.

About Deman Coffee

Our commitment to organic farming extends to the use of natural manures, devoid of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.

Furthermore, we prioritize resilience by cultivating disease-resistant coffee varieties, ensuring the longevity and health of our crops.

We use eco-friendly practices by embracing zero usage of herbicides and adopting the use of manual and mechanical weeding.

We transitioned to natural coffee processing methods that use zero to very little water.

We handpick only the deep red ripe cherries and carefully hand-sort them to eliminate any imperfections. This ensures the final cup is of the highest quality and most exquisite flavors.

Processing

Our processing methods include the traditional Coffee Naturals, where cherries are meticulously dried on raised beds.

We also use the honey process, where pulped cherries are dried with their mucilage intact for enhanced sweetness.

We employ the Anaerobic method as well. This is where we ferment cherries in sealed containers to develop complex flavors.

Cupping

Our coffee consistently receives an impressive overall score of 86+, boasting delightful flavors reminiscent of mild blackcurrant, chocolate, cherry, and lemonade, with refreshing citrus notes. These meticulous processes result in a truly exceptional coffee experience, reflecting our dedication to quality and craftsmanship.
